Fresh ripe yellow yuzu from the Netherlands - 1 piece (about 100 grams)

Description

Grown in our own greenhouse in the Netherlands. Ripe yuzu is an aromatic and complex blend of citrus with notes of tangerine, grapefruit and lemon. This popular Japanese citrus is often used in small quantities as a flavoring. For example, make a delicious dressing or marinade. Yuzu also combines spectacularly well with desserts and sorbet. You can also use the peel to make jam or yuzu kosho. And of course not to forget in a delicious cocktail. 

Stays good for about 7 days in the refrigerator.

Each fruit is approximately 100 grams. Should the fruits be smaller than 100 grams, you will receive several fruits. One kilo contains approximately between 8 and 12 fruits. 

Yuzu

Yuzu is a Citrus fruit. Originally from China but made big in Japan in recent decades. It grows like oranges and tangerines on a tree. The fruit starts out green and ripens yellow/orange in the fall. 

Yuzu in many ways closely resembles sudachi another Japanese citrus fruit, a cross between yuzu and tangerine, although unlike the sudachi, yuzu eventually ripens to an orange color and there are subtle flavor differences.

Yuzu is thus mainly grown in Japan but for several decades, also in the US and increasingly in Spain. Nevertheless, Yuzu remains scarce and has a short shelf life. Depending on weather conditions, the harvest season of ripe Yuzu runs from November to January and is thus very short. 

Because of this, the price of Yuzu is very high compared to other Citrus fruits. Fortunately, one fruit gives off a lot of flavor and the peel is also useful.
