    Planting

These ginger plants are made from pieces of overwintered ginger. This makes them very vigorous. They like heat. So plant them in a pot. The size of the pot depends very much on the growth phase and growth speed. If you think the plant is growing out of its pot, it's time to re-pot. The plant mainly grows sideways and constantly produces new side shoots.

Place the plant in a sunny, warm spot. June, July, August could go outside. The other months it is too cold outside. Fertilize regularly from April to September. Water regularly. However, the ginger plant does not like constantly wet feet. Very little water is needed, especially in autumn, when growth declines. The plant may loose some stems in the fall.

    Harvesting

You determine the moment of harvesting yourself. When you think the tuber is big enough you can harvest it. Otherwise it will grow larger. September/October the ginger is still young. Later it will grow more fibers.

    Prepare

Young ginger can be pickled. The older ginger can be used just like any other ginger.
