Echo Bear
The founder of Echigo Beer worked as a stage actor in Europe from the late 1970s to the late 1980s apart from his parents who ran a sake brewery in Niigata. He met a German woman there and during vacation periods he went to her hometown of Regensburg and experienced the deep and diverse German beer culture there. Later he wanted to spread this beer culture to Japan from his home Niigata.
Echiga Beer opened the first brew pub in Japan in 1994. Japan's first craft beer brewery.
The establishment of Echigo Beer was therefore also the birth of Japanese craft beer.
